Family Planning : Calculating the Ovulation Period

A female partner in a relationship plays a vital role in planning a family. Since, its the lady who bears the pregnancy, she has to be extremely careful about her ovulation period specially in case of natural family planning methods. For years, women have been using the traditional ovulation calendar technique for keeping a track of their fertile period and the times when they should have sex or not. But, now with the advent of science and technology, there are various methods of calculating the ovulation period and follow natural family planning at relative ease. Some of these ovulation calculating techniques are mentioned as under:

Ovulation Calculator

Now-a-days there are a number of ovulation kits and ovulation tests available in the market that can help a women determine her most fertile days. Such tests and kits are actually very accurate and thus, can be relied upon to a great extent. Pregnancy ovulation calculators are easy to use and come with user's guidelines and usage descriptions as well.

Ovulation Calendar

Ovulation calenders help keeping a track of periods and ovulation days of a female. These cannot be relied on much as they only provide a vague idea of fertile days. Though one can have a hang of it after following this concept for a couple of months.

Basal Temperature Calculation

It is a known fact that the body temperature of a women increases during ovulation thus in a basal temperature calculation method, one records the basal temperature on a daily basis. The day it gets higher, it is understood that the body is ovulating. Again, it is a very unpredictable method of family planning as it is risky to rely on only body temperature when you want to avoid pregnancy. Though, these days there are certain ovulation tests available in the market that help in tracking the body temperature.

Tracking the Period Day

This one is the most common method of predicting the fertile period and natural family planning. Generally a menstrual cycle is identified from 25-28 days. Though few females can also have a cycle of 22 or even 32 days. Counting the cycle from first day of period to the first day of next period, provides a vague idea of the cycle. Tracking the cycle continuously for few months helps in identifying a pattern together with the most fertile and least fertile days of that particular woman. Ovulation occurs in the mid of the cycle (pregnancy chances most likely during this period), hence, the intercourse activity can be planned accordingly.
